Holy Spirit Spotlight

I spent some time this week reflecting back on what God has been teaching me through 2 Corinthians the past few weeks. I felt again the weight of God’s Word on my spirit, and the desire to obey Jesus more stirring up in me again. As you reflect back on the past few weeks, what has God been stirring in you? What act of obedience remains for you to do?

Below are quotes from my notes over the past few weeks in which the Holy Spirit has shined a spotlight in my own spirit.

“Therefore, since we know the fear of the Lord, we try to persuade people.” (2 Corinthians 5:11)If we believe God’s Word about an impending judgment, then we will persuade those we love. If we do not persuade, either we don’t really love them or we don’t really believe. What do I really believe?

“Instead, as God’s ministers, we commend ourselves in everything: by great endurance…” (2 Corinthians 6:4) – Faithful endurance is the expected companion of gospel persuasion. For whom am I enduring?

“So then, dear friends, since we have these promises, let us cleanse ourselves from every impurity of the flesh and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1; Exodus 20:1-17) – The great tragedy for so many is that as they get older, they do not get any holier. Where am I not obeying the Ten Commandments?

“But God, who comforts the downcast…” (2 Corinthians 7:6; Psalm 34:18) – What draws a crowd is not what draws God. For what am I grieving and repenting?

I would love to hear what God has been speaking to you lately as He has shined His Holy Spirit spotlight on your spirit!
