“Lord, your faithful love reaches to heaven, your faithfulness to the clouds.” Psalm 36:5
As I read this psalm, I’m tempted to imagine myself flying in the clouds like Superman. However, seeing myself in the clouds obscures and dulls the effect of this psalm on my soul. No. I must discipline my imagination and put my feet firmly on the ground with the psalmist. It’s only as I’m dwarfed by the horizon and realize the impossibility of touching the clouds that I feel the immensity of the Father’s love and trustworthiness. It is only when I allow myself to see how truly small and limited I am that I begin to see how immense and vast He is. True safety is not found in the comfort of my home or in confidence in my choices. True safety comes “in the shadow of Your wings” (Psalm 36:7).
Have you found true safety? In an anxious world, may our resting under His wings point others to the reality of His faithful love.
