“Therefore, since we have this ministry because we were shown mercy, we do not give up.” – 2 Corinthians 4:1
It’s not until you see the extent of His mercy that you begin to feel the boldness of not giving up. The prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32) did not have to wonder about his father’s disposition towards him. He knew the extravagant mercy of the father. The elder brother on the other hand did not think that he needed mercy and ends up estranged from his father (Luke 15:28). Don’t forget how the father expressed his mercy toward both sons. The Father pursues, goes after His sons (Luke 15:20, 28). Since the Father has gone to such great lengths and expense to show us mercy, how can we not boldly declare His mercy to others?
What is your “Mercy Story”? Reflect on how you were alienated from God, either by rejecting His Son, Jesus, or by attempting to be good enough not to need Jesus. Then consider how He pursued you in order for you to know both that Jesus is the only hope you have, and that Jesus is the only hope you need.
Perhaps as you reflect on your Mercy Story you will find that the Father is pursuing you today.
