“This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” – Romans 5:5
Do Christmas and New Year celebrations share anything in common besides adjacent places on our calendar? If you look only at the secular culture around us, you would think the answer is, “no.” Football games, resolutions, vacations, and returning to work and school quickly eclipse the seemingly distant Christmas celebration.

But not so for Christians. God’s love “poured out in our hearts” reminds us that Christmas was only the beginning of the revelation of Jesus. As we put away decorations and clean up from celebrations, we steady ourselves with renewed hope. Christ has come! Christ has risen! Christ will come again! We embrace a new year with Christmas hope that will not disappoint us.
May God’s love be poured out in your hearts through the Holy Spirit whom He has freely given us!
