Triple Threat

“Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be sober-minded and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” – Peter 1:13

“Triple threat!” As the coach bellows out the words, the young basketball players immediately drop to a crouch with their heads up and hands ready. Ready for what? Three threats…shoot, pass, or dribble. From this one position, they are ready for action.

The Apostle Peter bellows his own, “Triple threat!” In light of the trials present and future, he calls out, “ready for action!” in three ways. First, “be sober-minded.” Calm not fretting. In control of thoughts and emotion not swayed by the thoughts or emotions of others. The “ready for action” mind is prepared.

Second, “set your hope.” Readiness to spring forward only comes from secure footing. Here, the hope of grace coming through Jesus secures the footing of the believer. The uncertainty of today can never diminish the certainty of tomorrow’s grace to be revealed.

Third, “be holy in all your conduct.” Not in some, part, or most. All. All aspects of life are submitted to Him and His purposes.

“Triple threat!” Are you ready for action?
