“As He laid His hands on each one of them, He healed them.” – Luke 4:40
With a touch, Jacob blessed his grandson (Genesis 48:14). With a touch, Cain murdered his brother (Genesis 4:8). With a touch, the psalmist knew the Lord’s presence and protection (Psalm 139:5). With a touch, the psalmist’s enemy was swept away (Psalm 138:7). With a touch, Jesus healed (Luke 4:40). With a touch, Jesus drove out the corrupt from the temple (Matthew 21:12).
With a touch can come both blessing and cursing, protection and destruction, healing and rebuking. How do we know whose hand to let touch us? How do we know what we will receive from the hand of God?
There is only one place of confidence for us, one place beyond merely feeling like we know what we deserve. That place is the cross of Jesus. At the moment of His greatest suffering…when it seemed that all He was receiving was curse, destruction, and rebuke…Jesus prayed Psalm 35:5. “Into Your hand I entrust My spirit” (Luke 23:46). It is unrealistic for us to expect to know what we will receive from the hand of God, but by following Jesus’ example, we can quietly, humbly, and confidently pray His prayer. “Into your hand I entrust my spirit.”

Then, with a touch, we will be touching God.
