Father Abraham Series: The Wrong Voice

“Sarai said to Abram, “Since the Lord has prevented me from bearing children, go to my slave; perhaps through her I can build a family.” And Abram agreed to what Sarai said.” – Genesis 16:2

I take faith into my own hands…when I listen to the wrong voice like Abram did. Just as Adam listened to Eve, Abram listened to Sarai instead of to the promised blessing. Instead of waiting for God to provide the blessing, he attempted to get the blessing through his own means. Just as Adam and Eve discovered, separation and suffering was the result.

The wrong voice may say, “nobody will know…it only affects me…I can always stop later…it’s not that big of deal…I can’t help myself.” Beware of the voice that distracts you from obedience to God’s voice. Unlike the classic cartoon with an angel on one shoulder and a demon on the other, it’s not always so easy to tell which is which. But here is the key. God’s voice will never contradict what He has already spoken in the Bible.

When you are not sure which voice is in your ear, get to God’s Word and obey what He has already told you to do. The voice of God will grow more clear even if the wrong voice gets more loud.
